It's hard to say what the correct fluid for 1965 is when your substitute did not exist in 1965.
If it used Type A, then a Dexron synthetic substitute could be used.
If it is Type F (and I believe it is), then I do not believe there is a synthetic substitute available.

A Google search will show that Type F synthetic is available. Is it needed for our Lincolns?
