66 Vert bleeding

Post by gee_rydes »

HI Guys,
My 66 Vert just strarted bleeding trans fluid. As if you took a qt of fluid and starting pouring it out... almost.

I took the converter inspection cover off and started the car.

Behind the converter it is simply streaming from what would be the front main seal?

Wasn't leaking before and just started a HUGE leak. Have you heard of anything like this from a front main seal?
AND to just start leaking this bad without warning? WOW!

THX

Did you recently acquire this car and start driving it? It sounds Iike the front seal has failed. There is little you can do about it except pull the tranny and have it resealed/rebuilt. It is 46 years old, after all.

You can always try Inge like lucas transmission additive, etc, but if it is really coming out, you at going to have to invest in a major rebuild.

THX Dan. Yes on the recent acquisition.
It just was crazy how it went from shifting great and no leaks, to major bleed overnight.
