1963 Continental ATF fluid type????

Post by Suicidekid63 »

I have a 63 sedan and was wondering if correct fluid was Dexron III. Owners manual calls for Type A, Suffix A. Can type F be used and or Dexron III? Noticed other posts with alot of psychobabble and was just wanting a straight answer as to type to use for complete refill and or top off. Thnx!!

My trans is original without a rebuild of any kind. Had torque converter replaced in the 70's, but thats about it. Do not think it is either c4 or c6, but PCA tag #. Thread you suggested, still seems unclear. Does anyone out there have an answer without a thread link?

Not to bring up a very touchy subject here on the Forum, but I found this company's site the other day, if anyone is looking for Type A transmission fluid in place of Dextron III.

http://www.petroleumservicecompany.com/11501.html

Also, not posting this for a bashing or debate from others for using Dex III or Type A, in place of Type F. I have run Dex III in my transmission, after COMPLETE flush of old fluid, since this original post (2009) with zero issues. Just throwing that out there. All members please use whatever you are comfortable with. :smt006

I plan on completely draining the transmission and TC on my '62 this weekend. Previously I had used Type F but now wish to switch to something more easily available where I am and here we have Dexron II, III and IV and I was recommended the Mobil brand so that is what I intend on using.

As for the transmission cooler and lines, what's the most convenient way of draining those out?
