64 front disc brakes

This area is for those who need help modernizing their Lincoln for purposes other than strict restoration. Such questions can be about adding an electric fuel pump, adding fuel injection, boosting horsepower or gas mileage, or tightening or lowering the suspension. Body customizing and chopping can also be here (although this practice is not encouraged by the LCOC).

64 front disc brakes

Post by bubba2246 »

Next project I will be looking to do the front disc brake conversion on my 64 vert . Any recommendations before I start on products or what to watch out for would be helpful. I’d really like to keep original whee size with hubcaps.

My understanding is that the conventional “easy” upgrade of using 65-69 spindles and calipers requires 15” rims because of the rotor size.

There may be other kits that allow one to stick with 14” rims.

Mark II Enterprises has a kit.
However you are going to drop at least a grand and no master cylinder comes with that option
And I have had shipping issues with them in the past

Ok thanks for the feed back, I’m going to look into keeping the drums and upgrade the master cylinder. I heard there is a good write up on this forum to reference

Most cost effective options I've found is sourcing a reasonable priced set of '65 or up parts. Also, CPP is the most cost effective aftermarket I've found. https://www.classicperform.com/other-customs.htm

When we re-did my '64 drum breaks I could not believer how well they work. I have a '67 rebuilt booster (since I had it sitting in my shop - robbed it off my '67 lol) and a dual master with no proportioning valve. They work fantastic. I do plan to upgrade to disc in the front when I bag my car hence I'll need to re-bend brake lines and run a proportioning valve.
