New ignition and new chrome bezel

This area is for those who need help modernizing their Lincoln for purposes other than strict restoration. Such questions can be about adding an electric fuel pump, adding fuel injection, boosting horsepower or gas mileage, or tightening or lowering the suspension. Body customizing and chopping can also be here (although this practice is not encouraged by the LCOC).

New ignition and new chrome bezel

Post by texaslincoln »

Just wanted to share a few pics of the new chrome ignition collar I bought from Macs Autoparts online. It’s a replacement for my 1965 Continental after the original part that was on it was twisted and broken. I went ahead and bought a new switch through Advanced Auto Parts, maybe $15, but it was the collar/bezel i was really looking for. Not sure how I ended up on Mac’s website but they told me to try replacing it with a replacement part for a 1966 Thunderbird they suggested may be interchangeable. I think the part was like $12 and fit perfectly to replace my broken one. It’s a little different looking from the original but a suitable replacement. Installing was a lot easier with lower dash removed btw.

Good stuff, especially if it fits with no issues. A new switch is also a good investment--I know from experience. Frankenstein's was on the verge of shredding itself when I got a replacement--all the contacts in it were burned up after 52 years, and it even came apart when I removed it. The new switch I got showed instant improvement in use, especially with the testing circuit to the TEMP idiot light.
