Moon Finned Valve Covers !!!

This area is for those who need help modernizing their Lincoln for purposes other than strict restoration. Such questions can be about adding an electric fuel pump, adding fuel injection, boosting horsepower or gas mileage, or tightening or lowering the suspension. Body customizing and chopping can also be here (although this practice is not encouraged by the LCOC).

I have not tried to bolt mine in yet but I do remember it being hard to get 2 screws in to hold it in place. I will try it this week if I get the chance since I will have access to my spare 462. I have seen a set installed on a 462 owned by a kid I know near Pittsburgh. The 462 is in an Isuzu Mighty Max! If I can figure out how to get the photos from my phone to the computer I will upload them so there is some proof they fit.

Here are photos of the 462 with Moon Valve covers. Correction on the Mighty Max...its a Mitsubishi. Either way a Lincoln motor in a mini truck!!! Belongs to David Singleton of somewhere near Sommerset, PA I think. He used a 4 barrel tri power adapter for the 3 carbs. Painted the iron intake aluminum silver but it looks like a real tri power intake from some angles!

Yeah, you can get them on but you have to force the top end bolts and I'm not sure if I really want to do that right now. The holes do not line up at all!!!

Well, I received another set. Not sure if they were the originals that they sent me or a new set. I have not had a chance to try installing them yet! Has anyone else been successful in installing theirs?

I mocked mine up on a spare engine and they seemed to line up for the most part. A guy I know bought a set and had them installed (see photos above) and his lined up nicely no problems. I wish we had more photos too; hopefully some of those who bought them will post photos. I do not have mine installed since the car needs lots work first.

Looks like they have these back in. I didn't realize they had more the made. So from all the reading on this thread it looks like 462 is good to go with these.

Go to http://www.mooneyesusa.com/ then navigate to 430 valve covers.

Their site is also very slow.

2 years later update. With the engine pulled, I tried to put these on and I have two problems. One, I can either get the top 3 in or the bottom 3...not both. They are just a tad off. Two, the allens sent are not the right thread count. Obviously the second is not a true issue, I can just go buy what I need. I'm not sure how others are able to get them to line up...I could maybe get all six to thread in but there is no way I could tighten it down fully. Since this is two years old, I am not going to call moon eyes about it...it's my fault that I waited so long. I'm hopeful that I can drill out the top holes just a little more to get them to bolt on. I don't know what else to do...

You know I mocked them up on a spare 462 and had similar issues with lining up but thought it was from the engine being dirty and did not force it since it was just a mockup. I also had issues with the heater box in the way on 66-67. 65 and earlier should work. How did you get around that?

I hadn't gotten around it :) I'm kinda bummed...pretty much bought them at the time just to get them because I knew it could be a one time deal. John, do you remember how much the heater box was in the way? Is it possible to massage :) the heater box so that it would have clearance? I don't recall the heater box being in the way at first attempt...I just couldn't line the bolts up.

It's passenger side only obviously but it looked like the insulation or whatever it is could be cut back to make it fit but would be tight or require some slight mod to the heater box. Never for that far either. All I can hope is that the car I tried it on had the motor mostly taken apart so maybe it was unbolted and for some reason not exactly where it should be. Also this axe has manual AC so not sure if that makes the heater box different. Never tried on any of my complete cars due to the need remove the valve covers and wiring etc. please post pics when installed!!!
