Moon Finned Valve Covers !!!

This area is for those who need help modernizing their Lincoln for purposes other than strict restoration. Such questions can be about adding an electric fuel pump, adding fuel injection, boosting horsepower or gas mileage, or tightening or lowering the suspension. Body customizing and chopping can also be here (although this practice is not encouraged by the LCOC).

I'm just gunna drive it til something breaks then deal with it then, I think it'll make it through the summer/SoCal carshow season, and give me a little time to find some more aftermarket goodies! :D In the 7 years I've owned it i haven't had any major issues, just a failed voltage regulator and little hesitation off the line. Gonna get new plug wires and Pertronix ignitor/coil soon too. Can't wait!

Buddy67lincoln: That looks so sick! I would love to have the Edelbrock tripower on mine w/matching finned air cleaners but, I don't think it'd fit under the hood without some modifications.

It might fit under the 66-68 Lincoln hood but by the time I get an air cleaner it may not...I have ideas for that. I might raise the already raised part of the hood and put a long low slit across the front of the hood about 1". That should help with clearance. It would look similar to the early 50's Packard Caribbeans. They have that low raised hood! Good luck with yours and keep looking, the intakes are out there. You are limited with carbs though...stick to the holley 2300s like mine for clearance

That was me and that's my '67. It does fit...I had a FE 427 air cleaner on it and it still closer with filters and that thick aluminum lid (no gaskets or carb pad). I know its close.

Follow this link, I have a side profile shot of the carbs sticking above the fender line. The crown of the hood and the raised part seem to be enough to make it work. I remember even putting a 1" spacer under my Edelbrock then put the factory air cleaner on and the hood still shut without hitting. Might be more space under there than we think...I hope!

How about a fairly low rise cowl induction hood? ;-)

How many 67's do you have?

I had 3 now I have 2 and 1 '66. I have a 67 coupe, 67 four door, and 66 coupe.

This is what I had in mind! I have more than a few hoods to mess with...Some are junk from being mouse tunnels. This will be hard to figure out the first time but I think I can manage it. I heard these Packard hoods are actually fiberglass?! I never knocked on one to find out! I believe the fiberglass hood was because of the special air scoop on the Caribbeans only.

Thanks to this thread and the hard work of you guys on the forum I just received my Moon Finned Valve covers. I am starting a restoration project on my 64 Sedan, so I have been reading a lot of the messages on the board. Decided to take a chance and call MoonEyes just to see if they may have made a few extras, at first they thought they were sold out so I asked to get on the waiting list for the next run and then a stroke of good fortune, MoonEyes called me back and they said they still had a set, promptly ordered them and received them yesterday. You guys rock for getting this done, these valve covers will be the jewelry in the engine compartment.

THEY ARE BITCHIN'!!!

Wondering.

MOON did the casting for the SUPER MARAUDER 3 X 2 400HP OPTION in 1958. They offered cast covers for the MERC similar to these.
1958 MERC Montclair SUPER MARAUDER 3X2 Alum Rocker Covers.jpg
Supposedly on the LINC VERSION (which was never installed but sold over the counter or to MERC) the aluminum covers were never offered as an option. Of course MOON later offered these aftermarket. I wonder if the design was originally for the LINC SUPER MARAUDER OPTION but never purchased by LINC?

...sigh...

Yeah Dan I know. I have nothing better to do...

I would love to get my hands on one of those MEL 6 packs. I saw an intake manifold on Ebay not long ago but the listing disappeared. If anyone hears any information on one I would be interested.

All I want is the intake manifold itself. The fuel pump caused many a fire (rubber fuel hose(s) stretched over a hot intake). The original carbs had no external fuel bowl level adj. and I would most likely go with manual linkage instead of the secondary carb vacuum motors.

Thi is a photo of a set of MOPAR 3 X 2 on a TRI-POWER 429CJ engine-

Image

The carbs are still available as are the FOMOCO style manual linkage setup.

All of it is worth it's weight in gold.

Anyone else having trouble installing these. I was able to get the bottom three on the passenger side in but the top three do not line up at all. Any tips on what I should do would be great. Also, should I use any kind of sealant on the gaskets??
