1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V,

Any Lincoln fact related question can be posted here. Questions such as how many Contintenal convertibles were produced in MY1965? How much was the Town Car option in 1969? What size of tire was standard on a 1953 Premiere? or Does the Mark II retractible prototype still exist?

I have a 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V, how do I tell what series it is?

Look at the brochures.

It may not be from any "series", but just a standard Mark V.

Does the Vin number tell anything? the car is white with moon roof red/maroon landau top and pin striping. Maybe it isn't a series after all. I'd send a picture if I could figure out how.

No. Vin does not. Body tag might with the interior code. Or body color code.

check auotmotivemilepost.com and go to the Mark V section and you can find all the information about the different series of Mark V's. this is the most accurate site that I have found about Mark V's.

I am quite familiar with all the designer and special edition Mark V's. White with a maroon top was never one of the colors for any of them. It is just a regular Mark V.

It almost sounds like a Lipstick edition, which I know was an optional trim for the Mark IV (but I think the coloring was reversed--body red, top white); I don't remember if it carried over to the Mark V. LINC400 may be right--it isn't a special-trim edition, just a coincidence that the Lipstick color combination was used.

I didn't think they had Lipsticks in 1979. 1976 for sure.

Lipstick Edition was not available for the Mark V. In fact, the Lipstick Red color was not even offered after 1976. Besides, it was Lipstick Red, not maroon that was used for the Lipstick Edition.

There--what LINC and Dan said.

Afterthought: I find it funny how they resorted to really gaudy trim options to drag in sellers. However, as history has shown, it worked at that time, and quite well. Besides, some of them looked nice, I must admit--even if some of the names seemed a bit pretentious.
