What is the Top speed on the speedometer on a 1980 to 1983

Any Lincoln fact related question can be posted here. Questions such as how many Contintenal convertibles were produced in MY1965? How much was the Town Car option in 1969? What size of tire was standard on a 1953 Premiere? or Does the Mark II retractible prototype still exist?

Yes, 85. Probably also true on the '80 Continental/81-89 Town Car with digital dashes as they share the same cluster, though I suppose 1985+ TC's may have been updated (somebody chime in?). The top speed is higher than 85, it just won't show on the speedometer.

I'm curious to know if the digital dash on Canadian cars tops out higher than 85mph, since our analog speedos are 180km/h (110mph).

Technically, the digital speedos can read up to 199; actual speed, though--that's something else. The owner's manual of my grand's old '82 Continental warned against trying to sustain any speed higher than 85 mph; and with the oppressive 55 limit still in effect back then, we never tried. Well, not officially, anyway--she did manage to make a 400+-mile trip from Deerfield Beach to Quincy in that car in about 7 1/2 hours--2 hours less than it's supposed to be. If only we lived in Pasadena...

IIRC my 89 digital topped out at 140KPH. I haven't owned that car in a long time and my current 87 w/ digital I have never tried to top it out.

140 KPH translates to about 86 MPH, so that's about right for the period. What model of '89 Lincoln did you have, Chris?

Hi Tony actually I have to correct myself. It was an 1988 Town Car Signature Series, black with black carriage roof and grey leather interior. My first TC was an 86 S/S black again with a 1/2 vinyl roof and red velour interior. I traded in the 86 to buy the 88 and sold the 88 back in 1999.
Last year I purchased my 1987 TC S/S Stars & Stripes edition, white with blue carriage roof and white leather with blue pipeing seating. The rest of the interior is a mix of white and blue, blue carpet and dash pad and the rest of the interior, door panels, headliner, dash face & pillar covers are white.
