What's a "Martino"

Any Lincoln fact related question can be posted here. Questions such as how many Contintenal convertibles were produced in MY1965? How much was the Town Car option in 1969? What size of tire was standard on a 1953 Premiere? or Does the Mark II retractible prototype still exist?

What's a "Martino"

Post by Barry Wolk »

My friend and editor at Hemming's sent me these pictures to help identify the origins of this car. Dan and I both have a thing for shortened cars.

Where did this beast come from? I think it looks pretty sweet.

Crazy looking! It's got a 1963 back panel and 1964 grille/ dash. It appears to have newer front seats with headrest. Any interior shots? I couldn't find anything on the web. ???

Need to finish the limo first. If I did this I'd start with something in better condition. This one's had a love affair with Mother Nature.

I don't know what the hell it is, but I really like it! Wish Lincoln had built the thing - they'd be worth a bigillion dollars today. :)

That's pretty much what the '61 T-bird was to look like. Lincoln grabbed the design and added two doors.

I think we had a thread here about the shorty convertible back in 2005.

This one? Couldn't find it. There were more made than just this one. This one looks the best, though.

The owner tells Hemming's that he wants big bux for this because, "It would take $50,000 in custom work to duplicate this car!" :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043

I think he means it would take $50,000 to bring his car back to life...

While I have seen 4 door sedans made into 2 door coupes before, this is the first time I have seen one made into a 2 door convertible. It is pretty stubby looking!

Is it worth $50,000? More like it would take $50,000 to bring that car back and even then it would never be worth that amount.

Here is a link to a coupe that sold in March 2011 for $23k:

Here's a pic I took at a Lincoln Meet in Ohio in 2005. I remember John Cashman saying that this car was a joy to drive.

Definitely a different car. I love the shape of the doors on the rustbucket.

The pix that Dan posted was what I was thinking about. It was owned by someone in Ohio who had a sedan and convertible for each year of the 60's. That car was blue, and at the New Hampshire meet, I was talking with Bob DeCarlo about it. He thinks the guy sold it to someone out west...gosh, I hope that's not the one in Barry's picture! The blue one in Ohio gave me inspiration to do that to a 63. Need to start looking for a convertible first.
