Re: LINCOLN-MERCURY dealers of The Sixties
I'm sure one of us has that info buried somewhere in our literature.
What I've been able to find so far is that there were 7,928 dealers that were franchised to sell Fomoco passenger cars and trucks in 1961. How many of those were Lincoln Mercury dealers, I can't tell you, but I'll continue to look through my literature to see if I can find the answer.

Re: LINCOLN-MERCURY dealers of The Sixties
I don't think mine has the original cover. The one on E-bay now has a very similar cover to the '65 Data book that I recently bought, so I switched my '64 cover for that one.67cab-dk wrote:Jim ther is a 1964 data book on ebay now the cover is not the same a yours ?

I was going to guess that there were maybe 1500-2000 Lincoln dealers, but I may be way off.

Re: LINCOLN-MERCURY dealers of The Sixties
The Duffield Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Long Beach Calif. was likely one of the most stunning and elegant modern car dealerships of the 1960's ever conceived for an automobile. It was designed by celebrated mid century architect Edward Killingsworth and photographed by the equally celebrated and talented photographer Julius Shulman in 1962. The building won an AIA award for design excellence in 1963.
This refined structure married cutting edge architecture with the genius and purity of the 1960's Lincoln Continental. I don't think it's conceivable to imagine a more perfect union of building and machine.
The recently published Taschen hard cover multi tome monograph on Julius Shulman gives very generous props to the dealership including a really provocative centerfold taken at night.
Does anyone familiar with Long Beach know if the building still exists?

I am not sure. I was researching old MEL dealers and came across this photo. I saved it for the reason the 60/61 COMET was supposed to be an extension of EDSEL but with the EDSEL demise, it was sold independently until it was assigned to MERC for the 1962 model year.LC67Vert wrote:

My car is originally from Ohio, I wish I knew for sure which dealer, I do know the original owners name and address.

Re: LINCOLN-MERCURY dealers of The Sixties
My 64 Lincoln was sold by Kreiger LM in Columbus, Ohio.
The dealership is long gone, but the cars remain....
Many years later, my wife was back in town (Columbus), visiting her mother and step father.
They went out to dinner, accompanied by another couple from the experimental airplane club.
Turns out, the other fellow worked at Kreiger in the 60s and 70s, and retired as the head of service.
Somehow, he got to reminiscing about the dealership and the subject turned to old Lincolns.
Without prompting, he got on the subject of 4 door convertibles, and then said that the one of the more memorable cars was the 64 owned by the Wolfe family. He wondered where that car was now.
Linda smiled, then told him she knew where it was.
Said his jaw dropped.....
Then she told him it's been in our garage since 1974.

Re: LINCOLN-MERCURY dealers of The Sixties
My 1963 Continental originally came from the Dukewits-Suttee M.E.L. dealership from Springfield, Mo. located in southern Missouri about 30 minutes from where I live. It was originally McGregor-Fellini Ford in the 30's and then became Fellini - Dukewits after that, before changing to Dukewits-Suttee. John McGregor opened the original dealership in the early 20's and then joined with Alex Fellini in the 30's. When John passed, Fellini joined with John Dukewits up through the 50's before Dukewits joined with Suttee up untill the late 70's. I think it is now Friendly Ford. ???

Does anybody have any information on Bob Foss Motors Lincoln Mercury in Colorado Springs, Colorado? Maybe an old photo? They sold my car and they don't exist anymore.
