Transmission leak fluid at shift linkage
I have a 1968 lincoln continental 4 door seadan with the 462' big block backed by a 3 speed C6 transmission. It is leaking transmission fluid from the shift linkage, I am wondering if the seal can be replaced and if so, where can I purchase one and how do I replace it?

Re: Transmission leak fluid at shift linkage
Ford calls it a manual control lever seal.
You might find it called a shift shaft seal. (Don't say that too fast)
Fits ALL C6 transmission applications from 1966 to at least 1972. Maybe even later. Should be easy to find.
To replace it you will HAVE to drop the pan and drain the fluid. So a pan gasket is in order with fluid. If it were me I would change the filter and drain the converter too. The shift linkages will have to partially come off from the inside of the case.
While you are there inspect the grommet connecting the transmission linkage to the shifter linkage. This common wear item can cause the transmission to not be in the gear the shifter was placed into. IE shifter is in P and the transmission is in R.
