Re: OFFICIAL 1965 to 1969 Wheel Specs
Measuring backspace on the spare wheel on the '78 Continental Coupe, I get close to 4". Its hard to get an exact measurement with the tire mounted on the wheel but 4" is close. Based on that, I believe the 62-5705044 – 15x7, 5 on 5” lug pattern, with 4-1/4” backspace should fit with 255/70 15 tires. Can anyone confirm or dispute that?

More back spacing brings the tire closer inboard. There is a potential for rubbing. I'd check your existing setup and see how much you have to spare.

Re: OFFICIAL 1965 to 1969 Wheel Specs
I just did a rough check on my '66 spare. As stated above with the tire mounted it's not very accurate, but I come up with backspacing that is close to 4" as well. When I get home tonight I will make a jig so I can measure accurately with the tire on and post a couple photos.
I think there may be an issue with the measurements, I wasn't there so I don't know for sure but with the measurements you gave Dan there would only be ~.8" of front spacing and that just doesn't sound right. The Lincoln wheels are positive offset but just eyeballing them I don't think it's that little.

My measurements are on a bare rim. They are pretty accurate.

Re: OFFICIAL 1965 to 1969 Wheel Specs
Here is what I found. This is a 1966. Original riveted Kelsey Hayes wheel.
I get 4 3/8" backspacing so a wheel with 4 1/4 backspacing would be a suitable replacement wheel.

Hmmm. I measured 6.313". I better recheck. I used the same method.

I don't think it changed much over the years - the new wheels on my 1983 Mark VI were around 4 inches or so of backspace.

Re: OFFICIAL 1965 to 1969 Wheel Specs
I do totally suck. I forgot to deduct the 2 inches for the width of the drywall square I was using! Above posts edited to show the correct dimensions.
Robbie measured 4-3/8, I got 4-5/16 (only 1/16" or 0.0625" difference (about 1.5mm).

After looking at the picture I posted and then re-reading your first post with the dimensions I was wondering if perhaps it was the measurement from the top of the straightedge... Stuff happens!Dan Szwarc wrote:I do totally suck. I forgot to deduct the 2 inches for the width of the drywall square I was using.

I can't believe I did that. I think I was even aware of it when I did it, but must have forgot when I wrote the numbers down. If I took a picture, like you, I would have realized. I used the same kind of square for the depth measurement and use the top of the rule to sit against.

Re: OFFICIAL 1965 to 1969 Wheel Specs
I have to question the accuracy of the applicability of 15 x 7" rims on a Sixties' LC, per the California supplier.
My '66 LCC had 15 x 6" stock rims, and that's what the owner's manual or other L-M date sheet specified.
And, as we know, nothing is heavier than a 60s LCC from the L-M Div..
I could be wrong here; but I doubt that L-M installed 15 x 7" rims... until the 70s or 80s. But that's just my guess. I do continue to doubt that any 60s L C had 7" wide rims----I really believe that they were all 6" wide.

Rear Counter reports Lincoln Land has a NOS set of 4 C8VY-1007-A steel wheels. No idea what price. I am sure not cheap.

Re: OFFICIAL 1965 to 1969 Wheel Specs
Getting ready to powdercoat my original steel rims before I mount new tires. There's only one problem. I don't have any original lugnuts. From what I can find, 1/2-20 is correct size. Anything special about these or are they just the standard tapered lugnut with an open end? Who wants to sell me a set?

Re: OFFICIAL 1965 to 1969 Wheel Specs
Will the 64-69 15" wheels work on my 61? I'd like to switch out the 14" rims for 15" it possible.
Thanks,
Allen
