There's a Powerstroke'd 65 Lincoln...

I came across a 65 Lincoln that is in the process of receiving a 7.3 Powerstroke engine/trans. This is the swap my 64 would get if I was willing to cut up the car, but I never thought anyone would actually DO the swap. The mechanical install is complete and the electrical is underway. I have a coupl...

Re: My FiTech Conversion

Thanks for the update, especially with all the particulars. I've started but never finished several plans to EFI my 64- in the end I'm probably going to just do it the smart easy way like you did.

Re: Exhaust Manifold Advice

I had my manifolds surfaced while they were off, and I put them back on 'naked'. No leaks. I haven't used a gasket on an iron manifold in DECADES.

The growling p/s pump...

My car sat idle for about two years while I upgraded the brakes (it was a daily driver before and since). I also made all new hydraulic hoses and installed a hydroboost unit. Ever since the first startup, my p/s pump growls like it's out of fluid. It was silent before the teardown/upgrade. It growls...

Re: Saginaw/GM PS pump

Complement to Tony's response (which I respect) from an occasional fabricator: you just need to make steel spacer to slip over the crank, that will locate the balancer in the same spot when it's bolted on. Spacer will need to fit into a crankcase oil seal; that detail will be obvious on disassembly....

I'm going to go back to NOT answering questions... I'm glad somebody had the right answer for you, Tony.

Re: Question About a Bolt Hole

If it's for lifting, it's 3/8-16 or 7/16-14, 99% confidence. Buy two different 3/4" long bolts and use the one that fits. (this method also explains my large collection of leftover parts & hardware).

Stop being so sensible, Dan! Among some friends here in New Orleans, there is serious talk of putting a Duramax into a 55 Chevy!

That's good to hear (that it was an electronic decision, not a structural/mechanical one). One of my partners in crime is an ace Ford ECU programmer.

Thanks for the tip!

Re: My '62 project

Hey could you post a photo or two showing how the AC was wedged into the dash? I am planning on this exact mod (vintage air connected through factory center vents) now that my car is in steady state towards completion. HA me too. I've been sitting on a Vintage Air unit for about a year, preparing m...

Re: Throwing Away the Expansion tank on a '63

I think the shiny blue is a great contrast to the farm-tractor patina found elsewhere under the hood! It looked so nice I finally pulled the fuel pump that I bypassed last year. fuel pump gone.JPG Then I put a teeny little rice-rocket coolant reservoir by the battery box. I like the tank but the bra...

Inspired by this thread, I ditched my expansion tank this afternoon. eBay 1-1/2" 45deg silicone 'turbo hose' eBay 1-1/2 x 1-3/4" silicone 'turbo hose' Dorman 902-305 Coolant Filler Neck O-ring (swivel) water neck for small block Chev, 45deg outlet. Similar to the Mr Gasket one previously m...

Re: Great article on Jon's 1962 Lincoln Hemi

That's a beautiful machine, Jon. The article says a Coyote motor was the original plan- what changed your mind?

I've got a 5.4 32V sitting around, waiting for a weekend to test-fit it in my 64. If there's a compelling reason why you nixed the Coyote motor, tell me! You might save me a lot hassle.

Re: Axle splines

The only way to know for sure, is to pull an axle and count the splines. If you need to know the axle lengths, pull both because the left and right axles are not always the same length. Takes about 2 hrs to pull both axles.

Re: PRNDL and the green dot 1967 1966

My 64 has the P R N o O L arrangement too. I posted this a while back, but I drove the car for several years on the little dot, because that's where 'DRIVE' was expected. Car always seemed sluggish, couldn't quite put my finger on it...
