My 62 has a vented gas cap.
What is the gas cap number?

Mine only went to 3/4 full.
Changed instrument voltage regulator & gage goes to full.
Check instrument voltage regulator behind instrument panel.
Shop manual will tell you how to check it.

The VV`s were JUNK. I had one @ had all kinds of problems.
Replace with a Holly.

PS I had a 1980 lincoln Mark VI 351W.

My 62 has that foil insulation on the belly pan ,under the manifold.

Pinging is when you take a handfull of marbles in a can & shake them
under hard acceleration & somtimes not so hard acceleration.

Check at the sending unit on the tank. The rubber may not be sealing very well, may be dried out.

The fuel cap should be vented.
The cap may not be working properly.
