Re: '62 speedometer doesn't work
I'll have to wait until I get my hoist working again before I can try to get the gear out. The parts car is buried in the back of my barn and there's no way I can get it to the hoist. It might actually be easier to get the gear out of it, though. It's far enough gone that I don't mind cutting a hole...

never a dull moment
IMG_0615.JPG IMG_0616.JPG This is what happens when the deck lid doesn't open all the way, but the top lowers anyway. I haven't tried for a permanent repair yet, but the emergency solution was to jump the top-up relay to get the top high enough to disengage from the deck lid, then hold the lid up w...

Re: '62 speedometer doesn't work
OK, it sounds like the next step is to examine the driven gear. Unfortunately, Ford was considerate enough to put the cable connection to the transmission on top of the transmission cross-member. It looks like the cross-member has to be removed to get at the gear. Has anyone found an easier way to d...

'62 speedometer doesn't work
The speedometer in my 62 stopped working without warning (no noise, no jumping needle) as I was driving the car. Since "it's always the cable", I pulled the cable core out of my parts car before starting to work on the good car. When I got the cable core out of the good one, I couldn't see...

Re: 62 top goes up, motor keeps running
Yes, I tried the jumper method. The lid unlocks. Moving over to the lid lift relay, the solenoid clicks and the motor runs, but the lid doesn't go up, so I had to unbolt the lift cylinders to raise it. With the lid open, jumping the top lift relay, same thing. The solenoid clicks and the motor runs,...

Re: 62 top goes up, motor keeps running
I thought I had it fixed. I had to unbolt the lift cylinders to manually raise the rear deck lid. Not nearly as bad a job as I had feared. I got the pump off. The motor was really horrible inside. I can't imagine how it worked as long as it did. I had the motor rebuilt, but the pump looked ok so I j...

Re: 62 top goes up, motor keeps running
Various circumstances have kept me from working on the car for the last 2 years (and there was no place to go anyway), but now that the world is functioning again, I'm back to working on the car. Switch is ok. Disconnect deck unlock relay. Motor keeps running (just hum, no click or clunk). Disconnec...

Re: 62 top goes up, motor keeps running
Thanks for the suggestions. As soon as I can convince myself it's warm enough to work (maybe not until spring), I'll test the relays in the sequence you recommended. I probably have a picture somewhere that identifies the relays. Before I pull the back seat, I guess I should try disconnecting the to...

62 top goes up, motor keeps running
Last time I raised the top on my '62, everything happened the way it was supposed to, until the deck lid was down and locked. Then I heard an electric motor still running in the trunk. Moving the switch to the "lower" position had no effect. The lid didn't raise and the electric motor cont...

Re: Electric Power Steering (And eliminating the crank PS Pu
Has anyone looked into using an electric hydraulic pump that isn't called a power steering pump? There are plenty of them used in snowplows, power tailgates, etc.

Re: Fuel pump push rod
I have the same problem in a '62. I tried to use an "L"-shaped punch to drive the push-rod down, but it wouldn't move. I can probably hit it more effectively by popping out the freeze plug so I can drive it straight down, but I can see some problems. In order to drive the push-rod down, it...

Re: stuck in park
I haven't been on this site for a while, and I just happened on this revived thread. I finally had to take the column out to dismantle it and grease it. No amount of pounding, twisting, and soaking would free it in place. It was 4 years ago, so I don't remember all the details, but getting it out wa...

exhaust parts interchange
I've found what's supposed to be a complete, new exhaust system for a '63-'64 Lincoln. I haven't gone to see it yet, so I'm not sure if the description is correct. If it really is new, I'm interested. However, I have a '62 and a '65, but no '63-64. Will this system, or at least part of it, fit eithe...

Re: '62 steering column removal
Yesterday, I finally managed to ambush a helper and we got the column out by splitting the rag joint. I was hoping that the rubber disc would stay with the half of the joint that's attached to the steering box, but it's riveted to the half that's attached to the steering column. So it's still going ...

'62 steering column removal
Does anybody know a trick for uncoupling the steering shaft from the rag joint? I've read the factory manual and all the postings I can find, but none of them say what to do when the set screw won't come out. I can actually see the screw through the access hole in the inner fender, and even get an a...
