1963 Continental Question

As one who bought a '65 sedan in hopes of daily driving, I feel obligated to reply. Every hose, pump, seal, motor, switch, etc. contains plastic. Plastic was not meant to wear 40 years. You'll wind up discovering things you didn't know existed that need replacing. My favorite was the coil, which loo...

A Source for Retractable Seat Belts?

Andover has seat belts, as well.

Try: http://www.andoauto.com/Lincoln_Mercury_seat_belts.htm

Some of them look similar enough I may install them in the rear seat of my '65.

interior lights stay on

You can see some information about this in the "rear door closed" thread below." Willard Anderson forwarded me the diagram of the wiring of the courtesy light switch for the '64s and '65s, which appear to be the same. If you're not ready to take the door panel off and repair/troublesh...

Rear door closed switch '65 Sedan

Willard, Thanks for the info and diagram. I spoke to Steve Ouilette at Baker's today after looking at your diagram. We'll check for a short and see if the switch is bad. Are the #s on the diagram the ford part #s?

Rear door closed switch '65 Sedan

Yesterday, after a sudden rainstorm, the rear door-open light started popping on and off, along with my interior lights. I slammed both doors a few times and it quit. Later I noticed the interior lights on--driving home, I could hear the switch popping on and off. I just took the fuse out so the bat...

Updating the stereo - -65 sedan

The saga continues. I had to take the dash apart to repair some gauges that were damaged by an idiot repair shop in NY. So I had Baker's take the clock and radio out and ship them to American Classics. They rebuilt the clock as a quartz clock and rebuilt the radio as an AM/FM Stereo radio. When you ...

1963 AM to FM Radio Swap

I've just had my '65 sedan radio converted to AM/FM with 88 watts per channel stereo by American Classics at www.Americanclassics.com I will have it in a few weeks. They're located in Uxbridge, MA. They also converted my clock to quartz. I'll let you know how it sounds.

weatherstripping replacement

I think if you talk to Steve at Baker's Auto, he might be able to help you assess your weatherstrip needs. He can probably tell you over the phone how to judge which pieces need replacing.

This sounds surprising, but he won't try to sell you anything you don't actually need.

buying a Lincoln Continential Convertible

Since I don't do mechanical work myself, I'll add to the comments above. Buy a car that's had as much restoration as you can afford. Ask about every seal, gasket, pump, etc. before you buy. Aside from rust or rot, cosmetic repairs are straightforward and expensive. But in my experience, electrical a...

1958 Mark III rear window motor/motor rebuilder wanted.

I got Herb Ruben's number in Florida from Lincolnland. He rebuilt three of the window motors on my '65--including replacing the broken gears. We had some confusion over one of them, but he seems like an honest guy. That said, one of them is still stuck, so now, Baker's is trying for about the 5th ti...

65 front window motors

I also have a 65 and have spent my share of time trying to keep the windows all functioning. I think the colder climates make it tougher. According to Baker's Auto, you should start by completely degreasing the regulators. Thirty five year old grease can act like peanut butter. The '65 motors are no...

Anybody know anybody...?

I live in Manhattan and keep a '65 sedan as my weekend project. I've had limited success with NY shops. Steve & Francine's in Manhattan does good work, but it's not cheap. I was much happier with Baker's-- Steve was able to fix some things no one else could figure out. He has a body shop he like...

Lincoln dealers on older cars

I took my '65 to the dealer when I bought it, thinking they'd be the fastest way to get it on the road. They estimated about $5,000 worth of work that needed to be done. Everything they looked at, they decided needed to be replaced. One window was stuck, and they said "New motor, new switch, ne...
