Tires

OK, I got a different question. Need tires for a 1997 Mark VIII and have no idea what to get. The local tire guy says the meats on it now are not the right rating, eg V H R W Z or whatever? I don't need snow tires as I only run the car in the warm months--2 in Wisconsin. Factory manual says to check...

Re: Cool stuff of the time period displayed in your car.

That ad for the 66 coupe is SO representative of the mood of the era! I remember so well the Lincolns and Cadillacs that my dad and his friends so well appreciated in the late fifties and early sixties. To this day I'd love to find a triple black 1965 Cadillac coupe deville convertible just like the...

Re: 1972 door continental coupe.

Alan, Congrats! I know this car--it was in Wisconsin Dells for sale by Jerry somebody. I almost bought it two years ago but didn't have room for it at the time. Try Desert Auto Salvage in Phoenix, Arizona. They have lots of nice dry unrusted body parts and a lot of other stuff you will need. Good lu...

From your description of the vehicle's sanding marks and bondo I'd suspect it sustained a severe collision. Both sides should be straight as a rail. Check the underside-floor pans-and the front wheel wells for deformation. Body shops seldom replace the unseen parts unless it's functionally necessary...

$200K is ludicrous for this car, but a second look at the pix makes me wonder if it's one of the few stainless steel units made for the 67 model year, despite the mention of a celery paint job. I know some members of this forum are on record offering up various body parts to acquire one of these!! :...

1972 hood ornament

Did the 1972 Lincoln Town Coupe have an upright hood ornament similar to the one on the 1966-67? Pix of a local car for sale shows the ornament, but I suspect it's a custom add-on.

tire size question

Thanks, Jon. You are correct. I didn't know at first because the tire decal is no longer on the door frame. Checked online tire sellers and learned the original spec was LR7815, which is only three tenths of an inch less in diameter than 235/75/15. I didn't know the old bias tires were still in use ...

Tire size question

Does anyone know if 235/75/15 tires will fit a 1979 Lincoln Mark V?

I found a set of these that are low mileage "takeoff" from another vehicle.

Thanks,
Kim

MarkBlass80 is correct on battery cables--the thicker the better. I had same experience with my 79 MKV. Starter turns real slow, as with dead battery. Changed out battery, regulator, cables, and alternator--STILL NO FAST START! Solution was new starter. When hot, just from being adjacent to the engi...

Try usedpartscentral on Google. This outfit is an online listing of 4800 salvage yards across the country. Their database of Wisconsin junkyards has been helpful to me.

This is precisely why I moved to a very rural subdivision that has VERY loose development rules and minimal deed covenants. The lots are an acre to three acres in size, many are wooded, and most folks have boats, snowmobiles, and collector cars about. Most residents moved out here just to get away f...

Your friend is correct. I had one of these cars years ago and experienced the same symptoms: rough running, black exhaust, and low power. We thought it was plugged cats but it turned out the VV carb was the fault. These carbs were stopgap units installed in the years just before FI became the norm. ...

If possible, just go to your local pick-a-part salvage yard, select a similar car and tear the dash apart. Quite often, I've found cars with the dashes already in pieces, and I could learn exactly how they come apart without worrying about breaking my own car. :) :)
