weather stripping that is NOT JUNK!
I bought a couple of years ago complete replacement wx stripping for my '72 Lincoln 4-door from Bakers and am not satisfied with product they use. It's a one-size fits all approach, and rubber quality does not hold up. For me to be interested in what you are talking about I would require endorsement...

ENGINE COMPARTMENT CLEANING
Just acquired a nice old 79 Lincoln from a country boy's estate and the engine compartment is filthy with red dust from his driving back to the farm house the last 25 years. Mix that with some oil and you have a nice clean up job. Any recommended cleaning product to clean the engine compartment ?

AGED FRONT END SPRINGS ?
Okay, now that I've got a couple of responses, here are some additional facts on my tire casualty problem. Car was lightly rear-ended in November, repaired, then went into winter hibernation. Have only driven about 3,500 miles, 99% Interstate, this calendar year, starting in June, mostly 60-70 mph. ...

AGED FRONT END SPRINGS ?
1972 Lincoln Continental front tires have extreme inside wear uniformly distributed each tire, yet car did not pull either direction until wear became significant. Quite a surprise to discover. Could this be a loss of tension in coil springs changing the riding position of the front end and result i...

'79 GAS MILEAGE PROBLEM
mpg most probably affected by carbeurator settings and timing. My experience has been no two mechanics will use same settings and that it pays to have knowledgeable engine mechanic do your tune ups. If your carbeurator has not been tweeked of late, my view is this may be your culprit. Tire pressure,...

65 lincoln engine knock
you say you use premium gasoline. What octane rating is it ? If it is NOT 93 octane your engine most likely still will knock as you accelerate. That's what my 72/73 cars tell me. Even some supposed 91 and 93 octanes are NOT really the advertised octane. You might want to try another mfg's brand of g...

Gas miles on cities and highways
A 460 engine in a 5000 lb vehilce CAN achieve 15-16 mpg on straight and level highway w/o a/c on at 55 mph. As you increase your speed, count on a drop in mpg disproportionate to your speed. 60-65 mph will achieve about 14 mpg. Factor in use of A/C which costs about 2-3 mpg. All of the forgoing depe...

460 acting weird at cruise
a plugged-up PCV valve will definitely increase oil consumption. I have 72 Lincoln and had a spike in oil consumption which drove me crazy until I remembered the PCV value existed and needed a periodic change. It is an inexpensive part, can be self installed, and you'll know, evidently, with a short...

Having had work done on my car by Baker Auto and having also restored 1972 and 1973 Lincoln, I would encourage you to let Baker do the job for you, if you want it done correctly with reliability. They do not charge what some others might try to skin you for, and some big name collectors use Baker fo...
