Re: Wanted. Pitman arm for 73 mark iv

Then yes, I do strongly advocate replacing that Pitman arm. I can sort of relate to your situation; my car's idler arm needed replacing as well, but as I was very close to a big move the most I could do was buy the new one and wait for a later time to install it. Finally did that a couple weeks ago....

Re: 66 Lincoln Continental Crank, No Start

It will be prudent to check that, but it is really unlikely that you knocked a wire off the ignition switch. Except for the test wire for the Temp light, all the ignition-switch wires are grouped into one harness, meaning if you knock one off they all come off, which again is very unlikely, unless y...

Re: Wanted. Pitman arm for 73 mark iv

I'm actually surprised the Pitman arm caused trouble for that model. I'm used to seeing it just slid onto idiot-proof splines on the box's sector shaft and secured by a nut, no ball joints or anything else weird involved; stuff like that usually is done with the center links, like the aftermarket cl...

O, cool! :smt023 I should go there and see about downloading as many pages as I can, then. I did find most of their historical summaries and lists of stats very informative.

Re: Brakes working crappy. Help.

Oh yes, he will. But that said, maybe he's not yet in a situation where he can jump into the full conversion yet and just immediately needs the car to stop properly. I can relate; there had been times when I wanted to do something to Frankenstein and a malfunction was a perfect opportunity to do tha...

Re: 1971 C6 Transmission problems

I am assuming they pulled the unit for you? It's less than <$500 in parts to build one using quality clutches (not Alto race clutches). Oh yes, Smith's Transmissions went all-out in rebuilding and upgrading Frankenstein. I felt that I got more than my money's worth with them. They did slip up with ...

Re: Brakes working crappy. Help.

To me that does sound like a blown booster. The manifold vac supply will not be affected, except maybe for a drop in vacuum reading when the brakes are pressed, indicating a leaky diaphragm. With Booster Dewey out of the picture, I'm not sure who may be able to provide rebuilt/replacement boosters n...

Re: 1971 C6 Transmission problems

Actually, that's a surprisingly low estimate, especially considering the inflation we've caused over the past 3-1/2 years. Both my rebuilds–the first in 2005 and the second in 2013–cost about $1,400 each...but what prompted the second rebuild was the fact that the first rebuilder did not catch the d...

Re: Interesting find today...

Actually interesting to see those bars in their original function on the half-tops. That's the other part of the Landau equation: Cars done Landau had the rear compartment covered by a collapsible top, whereas the front compartment was always open. Put the chauffeur through the weathering abuse whil...

Re: Misfire when hot

It's Poland, so it's snow...maybe from a month ago, but still snow. I know from an IG model I follow who's from there and always itches for a chance to vacate to warmer climes during the 8 months of snowy weather there.

Dry sweep. It's kind of like cat litter in its looks, but able to soak oil and other vehicle fluids. Spill some on top of the stain, let it sit just a few minutes, use something to grind it into the stain, then sweep it up. It's also reusable, meaning you don't have to throw it into the trash when y...

Here's hoping it's something that's not as bad as it looks. Those transmissions are not the sort of thing just any shop can handle. Keep us informed!

Re: Input From San Antonio Forum Members on Upholstery Shops

O wow, that's only a 5-hour drive for me! That's doable if I need to do that. I should clarify myself on that topic, though: I'm not 100% sure whether the receiver-dryer I bought seven years ago needs to be converted or not. There are no warnings or caveats on the piece itself or the sales slip, sta...
