Re: HELP! VIN search for 1956
The vin number will be stamped on the top of the right front frame rail between the first and second crossmember. It is also stamped on the top of the rear cross member. I have also seen them on the top plate of the x-member. The convertible frame also has a 1/2 inch plate welded to each of the lowe...

Re: MK II paint
Contact Color-ite in Bethany CT. They have been doing paint for LCOC members since 1970. They were able to match the 56 Dark Blue for me to perfection. And yes, the Mark II colors are different than the 56 Lincoln colors.

Re: 56 Premier Window Wiring
The information you have is right in both cases. Both types of relays were used on the 56. This was a production change, but I don't know when. Presently, I'm working on a 56 convertible that was manufactured in January of 56 and it has the single relay mounted on the right inner fender panel. The s...

The difference between the Capri and Custom for 55 as well as 52-54, was the trim package. The Custom had cloth seats, the Capri had choices of cloth and leather. The Custom name was used in 54 and 55. In 52 and 53, the car was named Cosmopolitan and had the name badge on the rear quarter. The garni...

The fresh air ducts, part no. BA-7001878_C are available from Concours Parts in Nevada (800) 722-0009. They are the same for 52-54 Ford and Mercury. Attached is a photo of my 54 Panam Lincoln. It is restored exactly as it ran in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana. I've been restoring 50s Lincolns and Con...

There are no fastener kits available for this car. The many nuts and bolts are item specific to the car. The only way to get the correct nuts and bolts for this car is to find a 56 or 57 Lincoln parts car that has not been cannibalized. For example, the front sheet metal fastener bolts are an SAE thr...

The trunk key ( the round one on the right) is a correct Mark II key. The ignition/door key on the left is a 1952-55 Lincoln key. The Mark II's ignition key had the same Continental star on it but was shaped the same way as the 52-55 Lincoln ignition key. Both keys were chrome plated. If I could pos...

The standard 56 Lincoln mirrors (part number BU 17696-A) were rectangular, not square. Lincoln offered a hooded rectangular mirror ( (BAE 17696- B) as an accessory mirror and was also available on the Mercury. Ford cars had a round mirror (B6A-17696) that was installed on Ford cars through 1959. Its...

The road lamps (part number FDU 15200-A) were usually ordered when the car was originally purchased at the dealer as an accessory item. I don't have the cost for the 56, but I have the cost for the 54 Lincoln. The charge was $37.13 to have the factory install the road lamps on the 54 Lincoln. A 10% ...

Here are two links to the Chassis manual for 54. The 55 had the same heater system. Also check the control valves located on the right inner fender panel and inside the firewall next to the master cylinder. Another cause of no heat is the heater cores plugged up. Remove the heater hoses and blow the...

Factory air (evaporator and blower motors) on your 56 was mounted in the trunk. The cold air was routed from the package tray to the headliner plenums via clear plastic tubes. The headliner plenums were specially formed cardboard pieces that took the shape of the roof and had two registers per plenu...
