Re: 1955 Thunderbird Mark II
The Mark II trunk lid hump, in my opinion, seems to go great on the 1961-63 Lincoln Continental. The similar Mark II style tail lights and fender kickup hump, and rather short overall car length, as well as the close coupled interior - make it almost look like a continuation of the Mark II with the ...

Re: 1955 Thunderbird Mark II
Thanks for that info Alan. To my mind's eye, the fender hump is a very important design feature of the Mark II and the 1961-65 Lincoln Continental. I once saw a model of the 1961-65 Lincoln Continental without the hump, and it totally changed the character of the car. Somehow it seems to really work...

Re: 1955 Thunderbird Mark II
Thanks Rick. I sort of am starting backwards, in that I am working on the hump letters (same number for CONTINENTAL and THUNDERBIRD). Rather than custom fabricating each one from scratch, which would take a crazy amount of time, I decided to have some laser cut. Not happy with the look, so I rounded...

Re: 1955 Thunderbird Mark II
Maybe that blurry black & white picture is one of those psychological Rorschach test - as in an inkblot test to see what you see in the inkblot?
Question is: Did I pass or fail?

Re: 1955 Thunderbird Mark II
You are right about the bumpers. I plan on using a 1957 Thunderbird bumper, which is closer to a match to the rear Mark II bumper. I thought about using the Mark II front bumper, but my initial concept was not to create a small Mark II, but a Tbird with the rear end of a Mark II. And yes, you are ri...

Re: 1955 Thunderbird Mark II
1bad55chevy, You can view some of my project over the past several years on my YouTube channel. Amateurish videos for sure, but they should give you an idea of what I have been able to do, although almost no true custom body work. If I fail at being able to be successful at building the car, which I...

Re: 1955 Thunderbird Mark II
You are correct, in that this will not be for the faint of heart. I grew up in my Dad's machine, welding, and sheet metal business but deviated from that and became a design Mechanical Engineer and then a Safety Engineer on the Space Shuttle Main Engines before retiring. While I am very good working...

Re: 1955 Thunderbird Mark II
I am in the early stages of actually building this car. I have bought a 1956 Mark II, as the donor car for the rear fenders, trunk lid, bumper, tail lights, spare tire well, trunk drip rail, etc. The car is really too nice to cut up but oh well. I am now looking for the correct 1955 Thunderbird proj...

Re: 1955 Thunderbird Mark II
I updated with a 1957 Thunderbird front bumper. I think it matches the rear Mark II bumper that is blended into the body. Sort of a baby Mark II, as the rear fenders are shortened and sectioned, and the deck lid/bumper would be narrowed. 1955 Thunderbird black side view - Copy - Copy - Copy (2).jpg ...

1955 Thunderbird Mark II
This evening I ran across a newspaper picture taking at a Ford dealership in Indiana around 1964. In front of the dealership is a 9 year old 1955 Thunderbird that appears (in my eyes) to have a 1956 Continental Mark II rear end! You know, once you see something, you can't unsee it! Anyway, I had nev...

Re: Crystal Clear Parking Lights for 1961 - 1963
Sorry that I have not posted the Crystal Clear Parking Lights for sale under the "For Sale" section yet, but I have managed to get side tracked on some other design projects. However, the price will be $149.00 plus $34.00 shipping in the US. That is for the kit to do two parking lights (le...

Crystal Clear Parking Lights for 1961 - 1963
A couple of years ago, I designed and fabricated Crystal Clear Parking Light lenses with hand polished multi-parabolic reflectors, for my 1961 Lincoln Continental sedan and convertible. I also installed them in the backup light housings. Back in the 1980s, before I worked for NASA, I was a lighting ...

1961 Sedan Trunk Light Tag
There is an original Tag attached to the trunk light in my all original 37K mile 1961 Sedan.
My question is, what is it for?
I suspect maybe a body paint color sample?

Are the self adjusters only on the rear wheels, or on all four wheels?

Re: Self Adjusting Brakes on 1961 Lincoln Continental?
Thanks Dan. My brake pedal seemed to be lower than it should be when applying the brakes, so I thought that maybe if the brakes were adjusted correctly, the pedal would be a little higher when applying the brakes. I did try to backup several times and apply the brakes, and it did seem that the pedal...
