Re: Wanted. Pitman arm for 73 mark iv
When you mentioned Cincinnati, I figured it might be Green Sales. They've got a corner on a lot of NOS and hard to find parts.

Re: 1973 MARK IV project
There is no plastic that is 100% immune to the effects of hydrocarbons, oxygen, and time. The engineers of the day probably had an accelerated life testing program, looked at the data, and said “Great! This polymer is good for at least 25 years!”

Re: 66 Lincoln Continental Crank, No Start
That’s why I asked if you had the II. The Ignitor 1 would burn up if you left the ignition on, but the 2 is supposed to be immune to that malady. The problem with it randomly losing power for an instant can be the Ignitor, but it can also be bad wiring. I once spent over a year chasing down a simila...

Re: 66 Lincoln Continental Crank, No Start
You’re talking about the igniter inside the dizzy right? I’ll check it out. How can i test to see if coil is sending spark? I can put the light tester on the coil itself and see if it lights up right? You could use your tester, but the simplest way is to just pull the coil wire from the cap, and ho...

Re: 66 Lincoln Continental Crank, No Start
You installed a Pertronix II, correct? If you read +12v at both the positive and negative coil terminals, it means the coil is probably good, and the Pertronix unit isn't grounding (I don't think it is supposed to until it senses you are cranking). You can disconnect one side of the coil and read th...

Re: 66 Continental Brake System Investigation
Frankly, if the old one isn’t frayed, I’d clean it up and re-use. It’s probably better than whatever we are getting labeled as new.

Fraser, I think for his year, the wearing ball is in the pitman arm. The drag link was just a solid forging with no wear points.

Compare to the original. Should be within maybe an 1/8” or less of the original or something’s wrong.

Re: Brakes working crappy. Help.
Once you drive it a bit, you may be happy with the drum brakes, they have served me well on many vehicles in the past, and a '64 with aluminum front drums, has the best drum brakes available. I absolutely agree. But it really does depend on the kind of driving you do. If you are the more aggressive...

Re: Brakes working crappy. Help.
Do make sure that the booster is actually getting vacuum, and it isn't something like a collapsed hose or a plugged one way check valve. You don't know what somebody may have done before you.

Re: 62 Transmission - Broke Something
It's probably not good news. The only place that fluid can leak from the bell housing is the front converter seal, and the transmission has to come out for that. Is it definitely coming from inside the bell housing, or could it be somewhere external, and just leaking its way to the lowest point (bot...

Re: Temp Gauge
I think it is an excellent suspect. Those gauges all depend upon it. Before swapping it out, do make sure it is supplied with 12v. A bad connection before the regulator would have the same symptoms. There is a radio suppression choke wrapped with very fine wires before the regulator input, and there...
