Cool! How do you keep it running, an alligator type clip or something?
It is the original engine and is still 6 v.

Minimum wiring set up for initial starting
I am ready to start up my ‘49 Cosmo. I have ALL new wiring but have not yet connected everything; only the ignition portions. I am wondering if I need to be concerned about the light harness, gauge connections, or other ‘loose’ ends potentially grounding out anything during start up? So, I know I ne...

Re: Question on front suspension of 1949 Cosmopolitan
Thanks to all! I have the steering wheel perfectly centered (as far as I can tell), with the Woodruff key aligned straight up and the steering gear set to the "middle" of the box, such that the number of turns left and right from center position is the same. I did NOT reset the camber once...

Question on front suspension of 1949 Cosmopolitan
I just pushed my '49 Town Sedan out of the garage so I could reinstall one of the rear doors (there wasn't enough room on that side in the garage!). When I had the car out, the front wheels looked like the front wheels of these dirt track cars. The wheels were angled and I had not seen that before. ...

Re: 49 Cosmo Water Pump
Got it done! Appears it was a compromised gasket. Once I replaced it, I will be ready to button it up again.
Thanks again for all the help and guidance!

Re: 1949 Cosmopolitan "automated" Front Seat question
I think I found the answer, but will have to wait until tomorrow to try it. Saw this on YouTube: put the spring end hook into a vise tightly. Then you can bend the spring to the side far enough to insert a penny or washer between the first coil. Keep doing this for several pennies, then bend the spr...

1949 Cosmopolitan "automated" Front Seat question
I replaced all of the window and front seat hydraulic cylinders . I was able to re-stretch the pair of springs for each of the window assemblies but am unable to figure out how to the re-stretch the single spring for the front seat mechanism. For whatever reason, the window assemblies were relativel...

Re: 49 Cosmo Water Pump
Not yet. Been too cold to mess with. I also have the car up on some home-made wooden supports (3 rows of 2’ squares of 2x4s). I need to get it to ground level so what I have to hold is closer for the garage floor. Then I can use some jack stands to support the 2x6 board that will be under the oil pa...

Re: 49 Cosmo Water Pump
Wow! Thanks to all. I was SURE I had responded almost a month ago, thanking Tom, but obviously something happened before it got posted. I appreciate everyone’s help, and I am truly sorry for not checking sooner!

49 Cosmo Water Pump
I am in a real pickle now....I was all ready to attempt to start the engine on my 49 Cosmo. All fluids were in and everything seemingly tightened up. I noticed a small amount of coolant that appeared to have dripped from the water pump side of the lower radiator hose to the frame. I thought it was m...

Re: 1949 Steering Column Transmission Linkage
Tom, I have a clamp that resembles the P/N that you describe. I assumed it had something to do with holding that clip in place. I also have the backup switch that clamps to the exterior of the tube, so when the lever goes into reverse (up) it hits the switch to turn the light on. I get the part this...
