Re: Brakes working crappy. Help.

Sounds like a fair price, without a lot of searching around.

Re: 62 Transmission - Broke Something

As stated, the drip from the bell housing points to a front seal, also called a front oil pump seal. This is a common first sign on an older transmission, usually requiring a new bushing and the torque converter input machined. If it were me, I would bite the bullet and get a full overhaul while it'...

Re: Brakes working crappy. Help.

Once you drive it a bit, you may be happy with the drum brakes, they have served me well on many vehicles in the past, and a '64 with aluminum front drums, has the best drum brakes available. Buick invented the aluminum drums, I have them on mine and have never had any complaint. I will probably con...

Re: Brakes working crappy. Help.

Well I am not an expert on modification, but you say you want to add front disc at some time. Disc brakes may require a dual diaphragm booster, so you may need another rebuilt one at that time, just saying.

Re: 1974 headlight switch

If you look in this forums "for sale" section, near the bottom, I listed some Mark V parts. Included is a picture of a headlight switch. See if it looks the same, I expect it will. Obviously, I couldn't test the doors. but it worked electrically, and holds vacuum in all three positions. Al...

Re: Our ‘66 Convertible Project

If corn oil is doing that to floats, imagine what it's doing to everything else. On the tire front, Lincoln used special wheel weights, no longer available. If you have any, save them for re-use on the outer rim, your hubcaps will not go over normal weights. They can use stick ons, but they may not ...

Re: Accelerator (gas) pedal

If you want pretty, you could probably re-shape it and add the trim and previously discussed tread, but that's less important than getting it functional.

Re: Discouraging Air Filter Finding

I always wondered why Lincoln changed, but it fits on my car fine. The '62 cleaner has a bigger filter, so it seems like a strange move. I think most FEs used the later filter, so maybe that had some bearing.

Re: Discouraging Air Filter Finding

Lee, I'm sure you've checked, will the '63 air cleaner fit your car? That is what is on mime, but it has a '63 carb. I've never seen one of those Carter 2Vs, but they may have a smaller size top opening.
Reason I ask, is that I think '63-7 filters are easier to source.

Re: Accelerator (gas) pedal

It looks like the pedal in my Mercury truck, I should have looked at that.
I was at the farm and checked my parts cars, one is rusted and broken, one is rusted and seized one has rusted to the floor and can't be removed, and one has gone missing. good thing you found that repop.

Re: Temp Gauge

Or CVR, constant voltage regulator.
This may seem obvious, but some Lincolns have gauges some have lights, the senders are not compatible. Some suppliers just sell whatever they have, listings may be inaccurate.

Re: '63 Fuel gauge not working

Hank, I went and had a look today, at the closer car, it is a '57 Capri 4 dr. but It is junk, the hood is surprisingly straight, but every other part is smashed and rusted, interior is out, some parts still inside, but every window is broken, so nothing of value in there It still has an engine, but ...

Re: Second opinion. 462 rebuild?

I would suggest you verify the head gaskets with another mechanic, a second opinion is cheaper than a rebuild. A poorly stored car, in a humid climate could just have a lot of condensation, check compression, wet and dry, pressure check cooling system. Even if it needs head gaskets, that's not reall...
