Re: Odd old picture of a Mark II

I'd guess it's a prototype on road testing duty in '55. I seem to remember that the test team used a Cadillac as a chase car. Some of the trim was blacked out on these cars prior to introduction.

Re: Dash Trunk Open Warning Light- Which Years

It was important for the '58-'60 convertibles to have the light, as the top would not function if the trunk were even partially open. The boot would impact the trunk, with catastrophic results.

Re: Survey: best Lincoln engine.. for YOU ?

To Gerald's comments about the MEL, My first car, a '59 Lincoln convertible did 0-60 in about 8.5 seconds (I can vouch for this because at death, it was on its third transmission). When it reluctantly went to the junkyard, the engine still ran as smoothly as new. The breathed upon engine (newer 1963...

Re: Follow my 430 rebuild adventure

Fine,

What pistons area you using for the rebuild? I just finished a '60 rebuild and can tell you that "off the shelf" flat top pistons are NOT the way to go.

Re: '69-'71 Mark III

Ray,

Congratulations, it looks great! If you are not already a member, you might consider joining the Lincoln and Continental Owners Club (LCOC). The Philadelphia region has a bunch of MK III lovers and you will really benefit from their local expertise.

Tony,

The '60 definitely used a crank mounted pump.

Re: 1959 430 Engine rebuild

Newchapters, Yeah, Kanter's works "fine" if you're happy with 195 gross HP! As far as I know, there were no off the shelf solutions other than the flat top pistons, which were obviously not acceptable (see above). I paid through the nose for a one off set, but Herb is setting up a bulk ord...

Re: 1959 430 Engine rebuild

The reason I posted earlier is that I got so fed up with the anecdotal discussions about flat pistons that, when my first engine rebuilder screwed up and overbored, discarded the original pistons and put in the flats, I want to another engine guy and had him complete the rebuild with the flat piston...

Re: 1959 430 Engine rebuild

Fine59,

You will lose 40-50 HP and 40-50 Ft. LBS. of torque by using flat pistons. Call Herb Scheffer at Lincoln/Mercury Old Parts (727) 445-7551, he can give you the info. and the correct pistons. Good luck!

According to the factory brochure, narrow whites were standard on the '62.

Re: Thoughts on '60 vacuum solution?

Thanks, Tom, I've had the Trico motor rebuilt, I'm just thinking of replacing whatever was generated by the inside vacuum pump. Dan, I don't want to add a big external pump (noise), I was thinking of an auxiliary reservoir that could be easily removed when needed.
