Re: How fast can I drive?

Hi ews Interesting question, and give German roads, it becomes more of a question of what is a safe maintained speed, in retrospect even the Lincolns of the early 50s could and did race at speeds of 100+ MPH. Then it was often the tires that were the limiting factor, how long would the tires handle ...

Re: Radiator cap overflowed

Hi If fluid is being pushed out around the cap and the hoses are looking inflated you might want check that the overflow line or the overflow tank vent are not plugged. I have had mud wasps plug the end of vent tubes, result lowe radiator hose blew off dumped all the coolant very quickly. Cheers Phil

Re: 337 ci engine camshaft removal

Hi Steve I don't remember any problem, let's walk through this all the lifters out, cam thrust plate behind cam gear removed, oil pump out, rear cover plate off so you can see the rear end of cam. If you've done all that it cam should slide out, did you note that in the manual that the engine should...

Re: 49 engine valve removal/replacement

Hi Steve Not knowing any better I just used my valve removal tool that I've been using for 50 years. No problem, just clamp down and remove the clips, have a magnet handy to retrieve them when they pop off. Occasionally one needs to be poked a little to make it come off. 49 Linc SC 1-10-13 003.jpg I...

Re: '41 Continental rubber connectors - choke & hand throttl

Hi

Can you take a picture of the linkage ends, might jog someones memory or alternate use that might help with a source. Plus I'm curious.

Re: 49 engine potential questions

Hi Steve

On all the engines I've sent out for machine work I've had the engine clean checked cracks and measured up. Then if they need to be bored had them start boring at the next available size. Only when their sure they have good bored are the pistons ordered.

Re: Fuel line diameter - does it matter?

I wonder with the lower fuel mileage of ethanol containing gas if the flow rates get more critical. Particularly if there is any kind of restriction or reduction of flow.

Re: Flywheel dowel removal

Hi Steve Well you answered your own question before I could look at the engine and crank dowel. I was trying to figure out why you thought they had to be removed. Sorry for not responding quicker but my engines are in cold storage, in the loft of the shop. Work in my shop is on pause for the last we...

Re: Oil change frequency.

Hi My rule of thumb for low mileage vehicles is once a year, when you say you are starting them regularly I assume you are letting them long enough to really get them up to operating temperature for a long enough time to boil the condensation out of the engine and oil. It also depends a lot on stora...

Re: 49 Steering Column Removal

Hi Steve In some of my previous post I have shown the engine work stand that I use for storing engines and for doing testing which is very useful for storage and testing. Here is a link to the plans http://canadianmilitarypattern.com/Engine%20Test%20Stand.htm 49 Linc SC 12-31-12 019.jpg But what is ...

Re: 49 Steering Column Removal

Hi Steve Sounds like you are making progress on your restoration. Now to your question of removing the steering column to remove the engine. While I can understand your concern for hitting the steering box while removing the engine, I can assure you that it perfectly practical to pull the engine wit...

Re: '49 Cosmo Door Hinge Screw problems

Hi Steve Which door or doors are you having problems with? Also upper lower hinge? So I can take a look at mine Lincoln in the shop. I have solution that I have used on other vehicles which is stronger than caged nuts. Relatively simple to make 1/4 thick plate drilled and taped to match the hinge sc...
