In regard to the 61 - 64 Lincoln Continental, I am quoting an excerpt from Collectible Automobile, October 1991 edition. "What eventually became the 1961 Lincoln Continental actually began life as a Thunderbird design effort, the idea being to creat a T-Bird with the class and "flavor"...

I'm going to post pictures of the wiring system that has been changed. I can tell you from what I've been looking at: 1. The starter relay on the fender mount has been bypassed. There are no wires on the starter relay. 2. On the positive pattery post, the cable directly mounts to the starter, but th...

I have a stupid question...would a bad ignition switch cause all the lights to start dimming down, turn flasher quit flashing, etc???

I honestly don't know. Also, I'll contact the auto parts store to see if I can get each item checked. The guy only checked the alternator.

Stoic, That's what I've been thinking. Although I've had that Alternator and Voltage regulator since the middle of May...it has been acting up ever since I've had the car and that's been over a year now. I'm so stumped at this. Before running it over, I had to put it on the charger. Before putting t...

Mark III arm rests help

I am having problems with the brushed aluminum siding on my driver's side of the arm rest. I've seen many pictures where they become unattached. Last year, I purchased a used arm rest and it is in great condition, but I've had so many issues getting that siding to fit correctly with it. Have many of...

Took it over to OReilly Auto and they did a test on the electrical. He told me the alternator is putting out 12.3 volts and it's on the low side. He didn't think it was the Alternator or the Alternator Regulator. He was more suspicious of the wiring surrounding the battery. In some strange set of ev...

If I need to get another alternator because I picked my last up at AutoZone and read here somewhere last night not to get those...what amperage do I need? When I do a search I'm gettin 65, 61 and 50 AMP alternators. AutoZone is the only place that lists a 61 AMP, no other option. Also I used an Auto...

Alternator Amp type for 71 Mark III

I have a question. I see three Amp types of an Alternator for the 71 Mark III.

They are:

1. 50
2. 61
3. 65

What is the correct amp for the 71 Mark III w/460? Looked in the shop manual and it didn't specify.

Ok, I'll do that. I did make it home and that was cool. I read in another post not to purchase both a voltage regulator and an alternator at AutoZone...oops both of mine are. Any reason why? I've been getting my parts at ORielly Auto. I've used them for other things and I've not had any issues. Thou...

Ok everyone, I wanted to report back what has happened today and let you all know what's going on. Before getting underway, I went to start her and she would not turn over. after having the battery on the charger for 20 minutes, I got her going. I didn't think much of it. Other than perhaps I need t...

Stoic, I'm planning to take her out today and run her around to see what will happen. In the garage, she run about 20 minutes without any issue, but that's under idling...nothing more. I think a real road test might be a better solution. I still will have the volt meter with me and if it stops, then...

Hey everyone...here's a tidbit of information. I called and talk to technical support at Pertronix. I asked how much voltage should I be getting to their coil. They told me anything above 8 volts and the coil will work just fine. I explained I was getting 11.75 and he told me that both the FlameThro...

Action, I'm at the office but will start the car up this afternoon and take a couple measurements. I did check the voltage on the battery when the car is not running and it's 12.36 volts. However, I didn't check it when it was running. I'll do that. I think it was stoic that mentioned running a conn...

Then is this OK to have this connected this way? And leave it??

the volt meter is not bobbing up and down, it's very consistent and the needle is not moving back and forth as it did before.
