Re: 61/62 PS lines replacement question

The pushrod has the bronzite tip. It completely wears off within a thousand miles. The 63 used an eccentric with an outer captive sleeve that spun on the oil film thereby permitting a solid steel pushrod as there is no wear point on the tip. I hope I am explaining that accurately.

61/62 PS lines replacement question

I’ve had my 61 convertible for 30 years. It still has the OEM radiator with the trans fluid and PS fluid cooling fittings and works great. A previous owner replaced some of the lines and removed the valve unit the fluid passes through on the way to the wiper motor. In effect, it became like the 62 v...

Re: '63 Speedometer Not Working

If you have factory cruise, you have two speedo cables connected through the Speed-o-stat unit. Worth a check.

Re: Fire Extinguisher Question

Went to a Cars and Coffee this weekend for the first time. From previous LCOC events, the first thing I did after parking was to put the extinguisher in front of the driver front wheel. Folks looked at me like I was crazy. I was the only one within the nearest five cars I checked that had any kind o...

Re: 15" Tires for my '63 LCC

I decided to go with the DB1 tires which are based on the Nexen tire with an added vulcanized 2-3/8” whitewall. I will report in when they are on. The existing DB tires on the car were Cooper based and have lasted quite a long time. Perfect shape, great tread, and no weather cracking. Unfortunately ...

Re: 15" Tires for my '63 LCC

235/75R15s from Diamondbacks on 15” Lincoln steelies. Those tires are so nice; easy to balance and they are actually round. Just ordered my second set with 2-3/8 www (it’s for my ‘61). First set is 9 years old, so I’d feel better with newer rubber. The old set is being kept in storage as they still ...

20 years?!

One more fact that makes me feel old. I remember when you had the restoration done! Then again, I’ve had my 61 for 30 years…

Re: Diamond Back Radial Tires

I have the Cooper Fury DB 235s on 15” wheels on my 61. I did the wheelcover trim ring modification to fit them to the 15” wheels. The whitewall width is 2-1/4 as it is a 61. Great tire but they are way past the sell-by date so it will soon be time for another set. Ouch.

Re: Top operation question

Sure enough, after trying different search terms, I was finally successful in finding an answer. It seems I asked this very question in 2017 and totally forgot. (Getting old is a real pain…) Dan had a good recommendation that I followed and worked great. But it appears now it’s new brass gear time f...

Top operation question

After winter storage, my 61 top will not operate. Pulling the top control yields total silence. Pushing it will cause the hydraulic pump to run, forcing the top to continue to close the already erected top. After abusing my back by removing the back seat and shorting the two relays unlocking and rai...

It bears repeating that due to the increased size of the dual master, the cruise control underhood unit will no longer fit. Just sayin’

Re: Finally getting started.

Sounds like a fun project and a good list! I’d recommend pulling the inner fender access plate behind the drivers front wheel. This will give you access to a section of rubber fuel line that has most likely turned spongy, thanks to the crap ethanol gas we have now.

Re: 1960 Lincoln Continental fuel delivery problems.

Not to be a Master Parts book geek here, but my 60-62 book shows a 3A674-A crank mounted pump for all years. Although the illustration appears unique for the 1960 vs 61-62. Why, I don’t know. The reservoir for the 61-62 models are also different as the dipstick tube was much longer than the 60 versi...
