I'm with MarkIII - If your choke is not releasing and the choke adjustments (lean <> rich) don't make a difference, it could be a sticky linkage or flapper. Try some good old GumOut on all the linkages on the outside of the carb (BOTH SIDES), and all the articulating surfaces inside while you're run...

Well, Lets see - The air coming out of that cylinder on the exhaust stroke is about 230 lbs/sq" - yup - that'll do alot of bangin! Strange you run into this problem - the left manifold on my 69 Mark III recenly cracked just behind cylinder 6. I had just replaced the studs and gasket in the end ...

Here's the most likely probability - your valve adjusting nuts are worn out. All it take is for one to shake loose and it starts unwinding. The inevitable result is a bent push rod (at best!). Buy a NEW set of adjusting nuts (DO NOT REUSE EVEN ONE!!!). While you're at it, replace the pushrods (they ...
